layla is one!

little monster baby. [noun] a baby girl born on halloween eve. one that rearranges photoshop buttons at will and tries to eat cell phones and ipods. loves dogs, push pops and pretty much everything. very much adored.

happy birthday baby girl!
it's been an amazing year to watch you grow...
seems like just yesterday that you were born.

mirror lake. {and what i love about these pictures}

that i was trying to take a nice picture. and that she HAD to rap for it.

that hayden had stuffed his entire chocolate donut in his mouth
and that jane was still looking for it.

the light. those eyes. the leftover bits of that chocolate donut.

everything.

that she found this exact spot and said "you can take my picture on that hill!"

them. the light. the colors. the tiny bit of flare off his coffee cup.
especially that he offered her a piggyback ride.
and that hayden was walking his dog.

jane. who was just happy to be with us.

happy birthday, dad.

during most phone interactions with my dad,
there's the inevitable "oh wait! i've got a fish on!",
followed by the sound of his phone being set down
and a bit (or a lot) of rustling around on the other end.
eventually he rejoins the conversation
and tells us what he's caught.
i was happy to have this very thing happen today
when we called to sing him happy birthday.
he was doing what he loves most.
and pretty soon, he'll get to take these two fishing.

happy birthday, dad. xoxo

he swims, part two.

i'll always remember this smile.
and all the love and support that got us through his first meet.
(and i'll admit that some of us needed more support than others.)

a whole world full of pumpkins.

the very first thing she said as we walked the trail out to the field was,
"mom! it's a whole world full of pumpkins!"

she had originally wanted a white one.
searched high and low for a clean one.
and settled for a dirty orange one.

he swims.

even though i haven't had a chance to get through
all of the pictures i took sunday,
i couldn't let another day go by without sharing these.
and how so, so proud we were of him on the morning of his first meet.

it's been a month of
gaining endurance (and confidence),
learning strokes,
making friends,
adapting to our new schedule,
and really, really hard work.

i was nervous.
he was calm.
but after getting the first event under his belt,
he had a huge smile on his face.
and so did we.
seeing how happy he was to have
accomplished so much in so little time
made it one of my favorite days ever.

stay tuned for part two of this post. xo, t

dixie & lena.

this shoot has been in the works now for quite some time...
we finally coordinated sunshine and call shifts with my schedule.
and got this in return:

boden.

i had the honor of helping this sweet little one
as he entered the world, right into his mama's arms.
and of seeing a friend of mine see a friend of hers
as the whole thing happened. it was amazing.
definitely one of my favorite things to do.
and then someone handed me a camera.
even better.

something's missing...

i got a call from my mother in law yesterday,
who informed me that her grandchildren
have been missing from this blog for about an entire month.
what this means is that i've broken a promise.
i hope that including some really sweet dogs
in this post with the kids
will somehow make it better.
love and apologies, t
